Operations Management Positions

Lumber Products Supervisor and Superintendent 
Job Opportunities in Coastal British Columbia
Western Forest Products, with annual sales exceeding C$1 Billion and producing 1.1 Billion plus BF of lumber, has engaged the staff at Search North America to search and recruit high performance lumber supervisors and superintendents, within sawmill, planermill and quality control operations. During the past several years, Western Forest Products has spent over C$125 million in capital improvements throughout their sawmills on Vancouver Island. Lumber production has exceeded 1.1 Billion BF, and annual sales have exceeded C$1 Billion over the past three years. All the timber resources have not been affected by the mountain pine beetle, or anything like the major interior B.C. forest fires. WFP is the largest crown timber tenure holder in Coastal B.C. Their timber resource base is directed to the highest margin converting opportunities for specialty lumber products. Due to pending retirement, WFP is focusing on hiring promotable management candidates NOW.

Lumber Dry End Manager 
Base Salary to exceed $90,000 plus bonus package. This inland empire integrated softwood lumber producer, with a significant investment in a new high-tech softwood planer operation, is seeking to hire a competent candidate to oversee all phases of operation as well as sales coordination. This includes: receiving rough dry lumber… operating and maintaining high-tech/high-speed planer operation… grading and sorting… packaging, and scheduling customer on-time shipments (both rail and truck). A skillset in new customer development is also preferred. Selected candidate must have 10+ years in all phases of dry end softwood lumber (boards and structural) production, as well as management training, including safety and grading, issues. Thin MDF Specialty Board Operations Manager
Base salary to $110K, plus incentive package. New investor starting up existing panel board plant in the Pacific NW. The company's two Maximum Achievable Control Technology compliant production lines include refiners, dryers, pressing and sizing equipment designed to produce 140 MSF - 1/8” annually. Their focus is on servicing a broad customer base seeking a lightweight, high performance engineered wood product. Applications in a wide variety of markets include furniture components, exhibits, architectural interior uses, structural and cross-laminated timber construction. This startup, in an existing MDF facility, could generate more than $100 million / year in sales of value-added products. Our client is seeking a hands-on, skilled Operations Manager to oversee all phases of this start up, and lead organizational development for long-term operations. Management skills in safety, operator training, quality control, preventive maintenance, and machine upgrades are essential. Selected candidate should have at least 5 years of plant operations supervision experience in plywood, medium density fiberboard, particleboard, or oriented strand board production, with a focus on leadership, planning and training. Successful plant startup and organizational development skills are desirable. Owner is seeking a candidate with upward mobility capabilities and a commitment to professional and company growth and development. Lumber Operations Support Staff Needed by Forest Products Consulting Firm
Annual income can exceed $100K plus. Well established firm with a track record of many successful design, construction and startups is seeking to expand their staff as a result of two major new sawmill startups. Maintenance and Support Positions

Head Saw Filer
Base salary to $75,000, including company provided health insurance and retirement. Large-log specialty sawmill operation located in the United States Pacific Northwest is seeking a qualified candidate to oversee all phases of the saw filing shop, including sharpening and benching large band and round saws. This also includes working with selected lumber saw blade manufacturers and suppliers. 

Selected candidate should have at least 3 years experience as a senior or head Saw Filer in a large-log softwood lumber operation in the Pacific Northwest, including Western Canada. Candidate must be able to train filers that have limited experience. Solid communication and leadership skills are essential for the selected Head Filer. Maintenance Manager
Base salary to $90,000, plus attractive performance incentive package. Upgraded engineered MDF panelboard operation in the Pacific Northwest is seeking a skilled candidate to manage an existing manufacturing plant maintenance support operations with a focus on maintaining scheduled machine uptime operations above 90%. Demonstrated skills in the electrical and mechanical trades training with a focus use of CMMS, spare parts inventory and purchasing, and electrical systems improvements are essential. A focus on increasing machine productivity and product quality is the key objective for senior management. Candidates should be able to demonstrate these skillsets through appropriate reference comments from prior supervisors.

Initial customer base includes furniture, cabinet, industrial door, and case good manufacturers. This product application should improve existing customer product lines by reducing product weight and providing new innovative products for current and potential customers. Our client has 14 worldwide patents on this cutting-edge panel product technology for many appropriate, wood-based, industrial customers. Millwrights, Electricians and Electronic Techs for Pacific NW and Southeast Forest Products Mills: $21-$30/hr, plus Overtime and Benefit Package
Attention NCO Vets: Skilled mechanical and electrical NCO techs serving in the USN or USAF.....  Due to the pending retirements of maintenance technicians within our client companies, a critical need exists for skilled technicians with preventative maintenance skills to service high-tech mill operations. Engineering Positions

Forest Product Manufacturing Project Engineers and CAD Designers needed for $20 MM+ new sawmill/planer projects in the Western U.S.
Well established forest product project engineering consulting firm in the NW is seeking skilled talent to service new clients focused on efficiently converting logs to lumber. Projects range from preliminary design to final design, construction and startups. CAD Designers can make $3,500+ per week, Project Engineers $4,500+ per week. Sales and Marketing Positions

Two Senior Mill Sales Manager Openings 
Competitive base salary plus annual bonus incentive, as well as comprehensive benefit plan. Our client, a major Pacific Northwest softwood lumber and plywood firm with mills in the Northern and Southern U.S., is focused on expanding their centralized mill sales staff with two new hires. Selected candidates will be making sales calls to prospective as well as existing customers within specific sales territories or product lines. Key duties include: complete customer service assistance regarding finished product sales/marketing activities, shipping schedules, inventory management, current order file and monthly sales forecasts. Selected candidate should have 5+ years of lumber mill sales or wholesale trading experience. A 2-year or more college degree is preferred, but not necessary. Some off-site travel to trade shows, customer and mill site visits is expected. (Search Assignment #6443)


Administrative Positions

Industrial Human Resource and Safety Manager in Arizona 
Base salary to $80,000 with a $10,000 relocation package, plus generous performance and benefits packages. Our client, based in Eastern Arizona, is starting up an out-of-date sawmill complex by installing high-tech lumber processing equipment. Sawmill grade logs will be harvested from a 300,000-acre federal sustainable stewardship agreement. Significant capital outlays are underway to fully utilize the federal lands timber resource in Arizona.

In this newly created position with a startup sawmill complex, the selected candidate will direct management time in setting up a complete set of HR functions, including all personnel regulations that fit Arizona and federal regulations related to personnel testing, screening, hiring, and training as well as dismissal procedures. The new HR Manager will be responsible for identifying prospective hourly employees for all phases of the operation. This includes screening, and testing/background checks on applicants. Regarding mill safety issues, the selected candidate will set up appropriate safety instructions. The new hire will also work with all supervisory and hourly personnel to insure the safety incident rate is minimized during construction startup. This includes all operations throughout the plant site, from log receipt to final product shipments. Appropriate security measures will also be implemented.

The selected candidate should have a business-related 4-year degree, as well as five plus years as an HR/Safety Manager in an industrial plant environment. Excellent verbal and written skills are essential for communications with senior management and hourly employees.

The career path for the selected HR/Safety candidate can also transition to the same position at a new, high-tech small log sawmill complex (exceeding 100 MMBF annually) and a pole stock peeling facility (exceeding 40 MMBF annually) at another Arizona-based location. The investment group is committed to reward key operating personnel based on Standard Performance Indicators (SPI’s) for the mill operations.
