We are increasing the direction of our focus on position openings involving raw material acquisition, production, maintenance, and sales of high quality forest products. This includes CLT's and glulam products. 

Senior Timber Structural Engineer
Base salary $160,000 US, plus incentive bonus and benefit package. Our client, based in the US, is a world-wide supplier of engineering services to existing and new mass timber highway bridges. Due to the rapid growth of this privately-owned business, a need exists for a Senior Structural Timber Engineer to develop and design timber repairs and new construction for a variety of structures. They will also review design parameters to provide value engineering options for various timber structure alternatives. This position provides support to the Timber Engineering Manager and reports to the Director of Engineering, Testing and Inspections.

Responsibilities include technical support of field inspectors… directing the timber engineering department for the design of new timber structures and the retrofitting of existing timber structures… directing the CAD department in the development of design, construction and shop drawings… and assisting various departments in the development of standardized drawings and procedures. Candidate requirements include a BS Degree in wood structural (or related) engineering, 5-years experience in the timber engineering field, Professional Engineering Registration in a State in the US, an understanding of all facets of the construction process, leadership and human resources management skills, effective oral and written communication skills, and a willingness to travel domestically and internationally for at least 70% of the work time. Sawmill Maintenance Supervisor
Base salary to $85,000, plus bonus package, benefits and a company truck. High-grade, large-log, green lumber only sawmill complex, located in the Pacific Northwest, is seeking a supervisor to oversee all preventative maintenance activities with a crew of 10+ millwrights and electricians. The plant is using local vendors to upgrade their log breakdown equipment with scanning optimizers. This independently owned company’s product mix is highly regarded by their existing customer base. An excellent future exists for a candidate who would like to work with a company focused on employee training and development over the long-term. (Search Assignment #6469) 

Remanufacturing Stetson-Ross/Coastal Head Planerman
Base annual compensation can exceed $110,000 (depending on experience), including company vehicle. Family-owned, multi-plant, integrated lumber remanufacturing operation is seeking a Head Planerman to oversee planer equipment changeovers at their high-end Western Red Cedar remanufacturing facility located in Western Washington. The 140-employee facility operates on two shifts with three production lines, and on partial weekends producing engineered finger-jointed and edge-glued clear lumber (molding patterns, siding, etc.) with over 400 SKU’s in customer offerings. This Canadian-based company has a unique timber resource base processing grade-sorted lumber specialty products, and has a significant customer base in the US. Customers include markets in California, Texas, and the Eastern US. A leader in safe work practices, the company’s focus is on operator and maintenance safety and continuous improvement through creative use of all hourly, supervisory, and management personnel. Lumber Finger Joint Department Shift Supervisor
Annual income can exceed $100,000 per year. Specialty remanufacturing operation in Western Washington is seeking a skilled finger joint lumber supervisor with the ability to oversee all phases of optimizing a 25-person shift operation processing clear lumber cut stock greater than 8” in length. Equipment profile includes a lucsan grecian saw line, Weinig finger jointer, edge glue finger jointer, and laminating structural post operations. The focus is on creating high-value added cedar lumber products. The company has an expanded product line, including over 400 SKU’s. Our client is seeking to hire a candidate with a demonstrated leadership skillset that has focused on operator training, safety, and equipment maintenance issues. Manufacturing Plant Shift Supervisor
Base salary to $90,000 (depending on experience), plus generous benefit package. Our wood products based client, with a new plant operation near the northern coast of California, is expanding to a two-shift operation and requires a team leader to oversee machine operator training and safety issues in every phase of this new plant operation. Key candidate attributes include three years or more experience as a production shift supervisor (with a focus on optimization and automation), and excellent communication skills with senior management and hourly employees. Selected candidate should be a forward-thinking shift supervisor with a positive approach to a wide range of challenges during the second shift startup phase and future plant operations. Advancement beyond this initial assignment is dependent on how the selected candidate can affect the plant’s future profitability in a team-based environment. A background in lumber is not required. Our client’s goal is to hire during the first quarter of 2019. (Search Assignment #6463)

Maintenance and Construction Manager
Salary to $125,000/yr, plus bonus and benefit package. Our client, in the Western US, is seeking a skilled manager with industrial electrical and mechanical experience to oversee improving current maintenance activities through applying hands-on leadership with a focus on preventive maintenance planning and implementation in the field, improving electrical and mechanical craft cross-training programs within the 20-person maintenance team (electrical, mechanical & rollingstock), establishing a high-valued computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), and reducing unscheduled downtime.  In addition, client is planning to upgrade a 100KBF/shift large-log sawmill and add a new 200KBF/shift small-log sawmill within the next 24 months. Added improvements also focuses on new dry kiln and planer operations. Our client company has a significant ponderosa pine timberland base sufficient to extract log supply for lumber production beyond stated shift production targets. The focus is on maximizing the return-to-log values from the timber base through innovative marketing and sales programs. Once they have improved the small-log sawmill and senior management has approved the planer engineering details, the Maintenance Manager will then provide technical direction focused on insuring the construction schedule meets specific targets, including completion and startup with no lost time accidents. Millwrights, Electricians and Electronic Techs for Pacific NW and Southeast Wood Products Mills: $21-$30/hr, plus Overtime and Benefit Package
Attention NCO Vets: Skilled mechanical and electrical NCO techs serving in the USN or USAF.....  Due to the pending retirements of maintenance technicians within our client companies, a critical need exists for skilled technicians with preventative maintenance skills to service high-tech mill operations. Wood Product Structural Engineers
Due to the pending growth in engineered wood product sales of CLT’s and glulams, several of our mass timber-based clients are seeking certified structural engineers with a PE or an EIT and 3+ years of wood construction application experience. The focus is on interfacing with the architectural and construction sales staff to insure that designs satisfy all local building codes applicable to using structural wood-based components. Wood Adhesive Technologists
Our CLT and glulam clients are seeking candidates with a BS in Wood Technology and 3+ years of wood structural component testing experience to oversee the sampling and product quality testing of a wide variety of softwood lumber species in CLT components designed to meet the strength specifications developed by the APA. Customers require specific testing results on shipped products prior to receipt at the specific CLT and glulam construction sites. Well established forest product project engineering consulting firm in the NW is seeking skilled talent to service new clients focused on efficiently converting logs to lumber. Projects range from preliminary design to final design, construction and startups. CAD Designers can make $3,500+ per week, Project Engineers $4,500+ per week.
